At Indigenous Strategy Alliance, we believe that achievement must be co-defined, one project at a time. This requires adequate use of consultation and engagement strategies, along with an understanding of multiple viewpoints and values.

From an Indigenous lens, we are still in a state of rebuilding families, communities and Indigenous Nations across Canada. 

Achievement with Indigenous communities must go beyond western markers for success and standards of assessment to include concepts of interdependence, interconnectedness, well-being, and wholeness, in order to achieve wellness for the individual and the collective.

My name is Catherine Birch and I have spent 17 years as a teacher and 15 years as an administrator. Over these 32 years, I’ve been able to go to a lot of PDs. While we all want our professional development experiences to be, at a minimum, practical, if we are lucky, we may come across some that are memorable and inspirational. And if we are really, really lucky, we might even have PD experiences that not only leave an impression on our minds, but will take root in our hearts and change us fundamentally. Rebecca’s workshop was that PD for me. Listening to Rebecca taught me that somewhere between fight and flight, there exists a nuanced, intentional, and educational approach speaking about experiences of racism, including micro-aggression and white privilege.
